Report from the Student Competition Committee

The 1999 Student Team Competition was a success! The competition was held March 5, 1999 in Jackson, MS, during the Annual Meeting of the Louisiana/Mississippi Section of the Mathematical Association of America.

I would like to thank the faculty sponsors and student participants for continuing to support the competition. There were 23 teams participating, representing 17 schools. I would also like to thank David Stone for his presentation at the student luncheon.

A special thanks goes to the committee members: George Cochran, Robert Doucette, Mark Lynch, Michael Pearson, Gary Walls and Randall Wills. The exam is available in postscript and dvi formats at http://www.millsaps.edu/~wickdd/maa.html

Be it resolved that the LA-MS Section meeting held on March 5-6 in Jackson, MS hosted by Jackson State University was a great success.

Be it resolved that we express our appreciation to Section Chair Professor Bessie Tucker for this excellent meeting.

Be it resolved that we appreciate the excellent presentations by our invited speakers and to the faculty contributed papers.

Be it resolved that we extend appreciation to the student presentations and to the student team competition, undergraduate and graduate.

Be it resolved that we express appreciation to those who presented workshops and to the book exhibits.

Be it resolved that we extend appreciation to all of the LA-MS MAA Committees for their excellent participation, to the Registration Committee, and to the Panelists.
